The Pulaski County Health Center provides STD/STI testing at minimal cost for Pulaski County residents.

Symptoms

Chlamydia
Known as the "silent" disease, it is likely that one will not experience symptoms. If left untreated, however, chlamydia can lead to various long- and short-term health related complications. If symptoms are present, they will appear within 1 to 3 weeks of exposure and will include:
Women:
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Nausea
  • Fever
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Bleeding between menstrual periods
Men:
  • Discharge from penis
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • Burning and itching around penis opening
  • Pain/swelling in the testicles (uncommon)

Gonorrhea
Like chlamydia, many individuals experience few or no symptoms. If left untreated, the disease can lead to serious health problems in both men and women. Symptoms that do arise include:
Women:
  • Painful or burning sensation when urinating
  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Bleeding between menstrual periods
 Men:
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • White, yellow, or green discharge from penis
  • Painful or swollen testicles​

Syphilis
Despite the risk of late health complications, many individuals may not experience symptoms for years. Symptoms may include:
Primary Stage: 
  • Appearance of small, round, painless chancres
​Secondary Stage:
  • Rough, red-brown spots or other rashes
  • Fever
  • Swollen lymph glands
  • Sore throat
  • Hair loss
  • Headaches
  • Weight loss
  • Muscle aches
  • Fatigue
Late Stage, following a latent period:
  • Damage to internal organs
  • Difficulty coordinating muscle movements
  • Paralysis
  • Numbness
  • Gradual blindness
  • Dementia

Testing Service Details

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
We offer HIV screening to determine necessity of testing. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors is also offered. Referrals are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)

We offer screening to determine necessity of testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors, discuss test results and tracking and treating contacts/partners is also offered. Referrals for other testing are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.

Syphilis
We offer screening to determine necessity of testing as well as blood drawing. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors and discuss test results is also offered. Referrals are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.

Cost of Testing

Minimal costs are determined on a sliding scale that considers your household size and income.

Who is Eligible for Testing?

Aside from pregnant women, anyone who lives in or around Pulaski County area is eligible.
