COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PROGRAM

The purpose of the communicable disease program at Pulaski County Health Department is to prevent a county outbreak of a contagious disease.

Disease surveillance reports are collected from local schools and physicians weekly. Certain communicable diseases are mandated by law to be reported to the health department in a timely manner. Once those reports are received by the health department, which could include suspected or confirmed communicable diseases, they are investigated, and individuals are instructed as necessary with appropriate follow–up and treatment given.

Examples of communicable diseases include,
but are not limited to:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Hepatitis A, B, and C
  • Rabies
  • Listeriosis
  • Meningococcal Diseases
  • Salmonella
  • West Nile Virus
  • Pertussis and other vaccine preventable diseases

HIV/STD SERVICES

HIV
Pulaski County Health Department offers HIV screening to determine necessity of testing. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors is also offered. Referrals are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.

STD — Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Pulaski County Health Department offers screening to determine necessity of testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors, discuss test results and tracking and treating contacts/partners is also offered. Referrals for other testing are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.

SYPHILIS
Pulaski County Health Department offers screening to determine necessity of testing as well as blood drawing. Confidential counseling to decrease risk behaviors and discuss test results is also offered. Referrals are given as needed. Services are offered by appointment only.
